This Privacy Policy explains how Utility Freedom LLC (“Utility Search Marketplace,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit myutilitysearch.com (the “Site”) or use our services. We built our business on being the trustworthy, transparent option — and that includes being clear about your information. Please read this policy carefully.

The short version

In plain terms:

  • We collect basic contact details you give us — like your name, email, and (if you choose) phone number — plus standard technical data when you browse the Site.
  • We use that information to send you the materials and updates you asked for, to operate the Site, and to connect you with utility providers when you ask us to.
  • We do not collect sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers or financial account numbers. When you decide to sign up for a provider’s service, you enter that information directly on the provider’s own secure site — not with us.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time, and you can ask us to access or delete your information.

The sections below explain each point in full.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you fill out a form on our Site — for example, to download a guide, request a comparison, or contact us — we may collect:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number, if you choose to provide it (it is optional on our guide-download form)
  • Your address or ZIP code, if you provide it so we can find utility options available to you
  • Any other information you choose to include in a message or form

Providing this information is voluntary; however, if you choose not to provide certain details (such as your address or ZIP code), we may be unable to find utility options available to you.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, when you visit the Site we and our service providers automatically collect standard technical information, which may include your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, the site you came from, and the dates and times of your visits. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies — see “Cookies and tracking” below.

Information we do NOT collect

We do not ask for or store sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or bank or credit card account numbers. If you decide to enroll in a provider’s service, you provide that information directly to the provider through their own secure, encrypted system. It does not pass through us.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Deliver the guides, resources, or other materials you request
  • Send you marketing communications you have asked for — such as updates on new energy, internet, and home security rates and offers — where you have consented to receive them
  • Respond to your questions and provide customer support
  • Connect you with utility providers when you ask us to compare or sign up for services
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and our services
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or misuse
  • Comply with our legal obligations

Legal Basis for Processing

Although we operate solely within the United States, we describe the legal bases on which we process personal information for the sake of transparency:

  • Consent — where you have opted in to marketing emails, phone, or text communications. You may withdraw your consent at any time (see “Your choices and rights”).
  • Performance of a service you request — when you ask us to compare plans or connect you with a utility provider, we process the information needed to fulfill that request.
  • Legitimate interests — to operate, maintain, secure, and improve our Site, and to prevent fraud or misuse, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where we must process information to comply with applicable law.

Marketing emails and text messages

If you opt in, we will send you marketing emails with utility tips, rate changes, and offers. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. We will also include our physical mailing address in those emails, as required by law.

If you provide your phone number and separately consent, we may contact you by phone or text about utility options. Phone contact is always optional — it is never required to download a guide or use the Site. You can ask us to stop contacting you by phone or text at any time. Message and data rates may apply to text messages.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited situations:

  • Utility providers. When you ask us to compare plans or connect you with a provider, we share the information needed to do that. Once connected, the provider’s own privacy policy governs how they handle your information.
  • Service providers. We use trusted third-party companies to help us operate — for example, our website host, our email and marketing platform, and our comparison-tool partners. They may access information only to perform services for us and are expected to protect it.
  • Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or our business.
  • Business transfers. If our business is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Cookies and tracking

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to function properly, remember your preferences, and help us understand how the Site is used. We may use analytics services such as Google Analytics to collect aggregated information about Site traffic and usage.

Most web browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, some parts of the Site may not work as intended.

Third-party links and tools

Our Site links to and may embed tools from third parties — including utility providers and comparison-tool partners. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. When you leave our Site or use an embedded partner tool, we encourage you to read that party’s own privacy policy.

How we protect your information

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Data Transfers

We are a United States company and we store and process personal information in the United States. We do not direct our services to, or knowingly process the personal information of, individuals located in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States.

Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy — for example, for as long as you remain subscribed to our communications — or as required to meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. When information is no longer needed, we take steps to delete or de-identify it.

Your choices and rights

You have control over your information:

  • Unsubscribe. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email to stop receiving them.
  • Access, correct, or delete. You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Contact us using the details below.
  • Phone and text. You may ask us to stop contacting you by phone or text at any time.
  • Withdraw consent. Where we process your information based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.
  • Data portability. You may request a copy of the personal information you provided to us in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Lodge a complaint. You have the right to raise concerns with the appropriate consumer-protection or data-protection authority in your jurisdiction, including your state Attorney General.

Your state privacy rights

Several U.S. states have passed consumer privacy laws. Whether a given state’s law applies depends on where you live, not where we are located — so we describe these rights for all visitors. If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have some or all of the following rights:

  • Right to know / access. You may request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purpose for collecting it, and the categories of parties we shared it with.
  • Right to delete. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to correct. You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to opt out of sale or targeted advertising. You may direct us not to sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
  • Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
  • Right to appeal. If we deny your request, you may appeal that decision, and you may contact your state Attorney General if you have concerns about our response.

Our practices make this simple: we do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral or targeted advertising. So while the “opt out of sale” right is listed above for completeness, there is no sale to opt out of.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in the “Contact us” section below. We will verify your request — which may require confirming information we already hold about you — and respond within the timeframe required by your state’s law (generally 45 days). You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf with proper written authorization.

Automated Decision-Making

We do not engage in automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. When we connect you with a utility provider, a person can always be involved, and you are free to decline any option presented.

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be communicated through the Site. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
