Ting Fiber in 2026: $89 Flat Gig, $93.77 on the Bill — and Who Owns Your Town Now

Ting fiber at a live Charlottesville, Virginia address in September 2026 is one plan and one price: Home Gigabit, 1,000 Mbps symmetrical, $89 a month, no introductory rate, no contract, no data cap. The number on the bill is higher. Ting’s checkout adds a $4.77 Infrastructure Tax Passthrough, so the internet-only total is $93.77 before sales tax, and $101.77 if you take the $8 eero 7 Whole Home Wi-Fi. Standard installation is free, and you are not charged until the fiber is lit.

The bigger story is who owns the network. Tucows, Ting’s Toronto parent, put Ting fiber up for sale in November 2025 and has already sold the Arizona and southern Colorado pieces to other operators. If you searched “did Ting get acquired,” the short answer is: not yet as a whole, but your town may already have changed hands. The table below shows which.

What are the Ting fiber plans and prices?

Ting fiber sells the way Sonic and Google Fiber do — a single symmetrical plan at a single price — but with a twist we found only by running a real address. The national ting.com plan page advertises “Home Fiber” at up to 2,000 Mbps for $89. The Charlottesville checker offered Home Gigabit (“Lightspeed”) at 1,000 Mbps for the same $89, and nothing else. Ting’s city pages list a “Lightspeed+” 2,000 Mbps tier, so 2 Gig exists on newer plant, but it is not a paid upgrade you can choose; the street decides.

Two things to notice. First, $89 is the real price: there is no “for 12 months” asterisk, no AutoPay discount to lose, and no year-two step. Ting has held that number since the Charlottesville launch a decade ago. Second, the passthrough is new. Ting began billing it on January 1, 2025 to recover “federal, state, and local taxes related to building, maintaining, and operating our network” — property taxes and regulatory costs — and sets one rate per customer type: $4.77 residential and small business, up to $14.31 enterprise, $3.58 per unit on bulk contracts. It is reviewed annually and Affordability Program households do not pay it.

What happens when you check a real Ting address?

We ran a residential address in Charlottesville, VA 22903 through ting.com’s Check availability on September 8, 2026. The checker came back “Ting Internet is in your area!” with a single card — Home Gigabit, Lightspeed, $89/mo — and an arrow into the order flow. Step 1, “Here’s your plan,” repeated the card: 1,000 Mbps download and upload, unlimited data, “connect 20+ devices,” $89. The right-hand cart showed the number the card did not: Home Gigabit $89.00, Infrastructure Tax Passthrough $4.77, total $93.77 before tax, with a note that “you won’t be charged until your fiber internet is activated.”

Step 2, “Choose your Wi-Fi solution,” offered Whole Home Wi-Fi at $8 a month — “Ting Internet uses eero 7 Wi-Fi systems; we’ll confirm the best option for your home when your fiber is installed” — or “Use my own device” at no charge. With one eero the cart read $101.77. We stopped there, before the Property, Billing and Review steps that ask for personal details, so we cannot say whether a custom-install charge appears later; CableTV’s July 2026 review puts standard installation at $0 and custom runs at up to $200.

The gap between the $89 headline and the $93.77 cart is small, but on a site whose banner reads “No contracts. No hidden fees.” it is worth knowing before you compare Ting fiber to a competitor’s promo. What fees does Ting add to the advertised price?

Add it up and a Ting fiber bill in Charlottesville is $93.77 a month before sales tax with your own router, or $101.77 with one eero — every month, with no year-two change. Against a cable promo that starts at $75 and lands at $105, that is the trade Ting is asking you to make: pay more in year one, less in year two, and never think about it again.

Who owns Ting Internet now — and which towns were sold?

Ting Internet belongs to Tucows Inc., the Toronto domain registrar that launched Ting Mobile in 2012, bought Charlottesville’s Blue Ridge InternetWorks in December 2014 to start the fiber business, and sold the mobile side to Dish in August 2020. On November 7, 2025, the same day founder Elliot Noss handed the CEO job to 25-year Tucows veteran Dave Woroch, the company said it would sell the Ting fiber business; Noss added that Tucows “doesn’t plan to make much money on the sale given Ting’s existing debt.”

Ten months later the “strategic process” is still open. On the August 6, 2026 Q2 call management called it “an important priority for management and the board” without naming a buyer or a date.

What Tucows has done is clear the deck. In July 2026 it retired the roughly $150 million of Ting Fiber preferred units, bought the data center out of Ting Fiber for $6 million so it stays with Tucows Domains and Wavelo whatever happens, and extended its own debt to 2029 — moves that sent the stock up about 50% in a day. Ting itself posted its first positive adjusted EBITDA quarter, $1.5 million on $21.6 million of revenue, with about 60,500 subscribers and 3,700 net adds in Q2, helped by a $4.1 million construction contract at the Laguna Woods Village HOA in California.

The pieces already sold are the ones that were never core. Here is the ownership map for every Ting fiber town as of September 2026.

Practically, that means a Durango customer now pays Clearnetworx $69.95 for a gig with the router included — $24 less than Ting’s $93.77 — while a former Ting customer in Tucson pays Wyyerd $95 for the same speed. Ting fiber customers in the remaining towns keep the $89 card, the eero Wi-Fi and Ting support until a buyer says otherwise, and any sale of a regulated broadband network would need public notice before terms change.

How fast is Ting fiber really?

The Charlottesville card says 1,000 Mbps each way, which on a wired gigabit port tests at roughly 900–940 Mbps after overhead, and Ting quotes sub-10 ms latency on its all-fiber network. Ting fiber is symmetrical, so uploads match downloads — the difference that matters against Xfinity’s 35 Mbps and Spectrum’s 35–40 Mbps cable uploads. Where the 2 Gig Lightspeed+ tier is offered you will need a 2.5 Gbps port and a Wi-Fi 6E or 7 router to see it; the $8 eero 7 covers the Wi-Fi half.

Ting has not published FCC broadband labels on a public page we could find, and the checkout did not surface one before the personal-details steps, so typical-speed figures here come from Ting’s own guides rather than a label. How does Ting fiber compare to T-Mobile Fiber, Google Fiber, AT&T and cable?

Ting was the only symmetrical gig in most of its towns when it built them. It is not any more. In Charlottesville, the Lumos fiber network is now T-Mobile Fiber and lists 1 Gig at $50 with AutoPay; in Wake County, Google Fiber and AT&T Fiber both overlap the Ting towns; and Xfinity and Spectrum cable are everywhere Ting is. Here is the field.

The honest read: on price, Ting fiber is now the most expensive symmetrical gig in Charlottesville by roughly $40 a month against T-Mobile Fiber, and $10–$20 above Google Fiber and AT&T Fiber in Wake County. What Ting sells for the difference is a flat rate that has not moved in a decade, phone support from a small operator whose customers on r/ting mostly defend it, and a network with no promo cliff. Against cable, Ting fiber wins outright on upload and on year-two price. Against 5G home internet, the carriers are $35–$60 with a phone line and hold price longer, but deliver a fraction of the speed.

Is Ting fiber worth it?

Yes on a street where the alternative is cable or 5G — a flat $93.77 symmetrical gig with free install, no contract and no cap beats a $75 cable promo that becomes $105 with a 35 Mbps upload. It is a harder yes where T-Mobile Fiber, Google Fiber or AT&T Fiber also reach the house, because they sell the same gig for $50–$80 with the router included. In that case the questions are whether Ting’s support and stability are worth $10–$40 a month to you, and whether you are comfortable signing with a network its owner is actively trying to sell.

On the second point, keep perspective. The remaining Ting fiber towns are the profitable core Tucows kept while it sold the edges, Q2 2026 was Ting’s best quarter, and a buyer would be paying for those subscribers — the more likely outcome is a new logo on the bill than a change to the service. But if you are in a town on the “sold” rows above, you are already a Wyyerd or Clearnetworx customer and should shop from their rate cards, not Ting’s.

What comes with Ting fiber — Wi-Fi, mobile, support and the Affordability Program?

The fiber ONT is included; Wi-Fi is not. Ting’s Whole Home Wi-Fi is an eero 7 system at $8 a month per unit, added at checkout with a quantity selector, and Ting confirms how many units the house needs at install. Or bring your own router — Ting has allowed that since 2016. Ting Mobile, the slice of the mobile business Tucows kept after the 2020 Dish sale, bundles an unlimited line with the fiber for $99, $10 under the two separately.

The Ting Affordability Program replaces the expired federal ACP for eligible households: the same fiber for $40 a month with the Infrastructure Tax Passthrough waived. Support is phone- and chat-based and U.S.-staffed, and cancellation is by phone. Ting does not sell TV; it points customers to streaming.
