Verizon Fios Review 2026: Plans, Prices & Is It Worth It?

Verizon Fios internet review card: symmetrical fiber, no data caps, no contract

Updated on September 29, 2026

13 min read

Verizon Fios is Verizon’s 100% fiber-optic home internet service, with symmetrical upload and download speeds, no data caps and no annual contract. At a Brooklyn, NY address we quoted on September 21, 2026, Verizon Fios offered three tiers: 300 Mbps for $30/mo, 500 Mbps for $65/mo and 1 Gig for $80/mo with Auto Pay and paper-free billing. The Broadband Facts labels list $40, $75 and $90 before those discounts, every plan includes the router, and Verizon locks the price for three years (300 and 500 Mbps) or five years (1 Gig and up).

Last updated September 21, 2026 · Prices and Broadband Facts labels pulled from two live verizon.com quotes for Brooklyn, NY addresses (ZIP 11215 for Fios fiber, ZIP 11231 for 5G Home). Fios 2 Gig and 5 Gig were not offered at the fiber address.

TL;DR — key takeaways

  • Type: 100% fiber, symmetrical. The Brooklyn label listed typical speeds of 310/331 Mbps on Fios 300, 517/545 Mbps on Fios 500 and 938/908 Mbps on 1 Gig, with 3.7–4.9 ms latency.
  • Plans quoted: Fios 300 ($30), Fios 500 ($65) and Fios 1 Gig ($80) with Auto Pay + paper-free billing; $10/mo more without. Fios 2 Gig ($90) and 5 Gig ($100) exist on verizon.com but were not available at this address.
  • The label price is higher: Broadband Facts labels show $40 / $75 / $90. The Auto Pay discount is what gets you to the advertised number.
  • Extra line item in New York: a $2.49/mo NY Municipal Construction Surcharge appears on every Fios tier. Taxes are otherwise included.
  • Fees: pro install $0–$99 (the 1 Gig quote showed a “save $49 on pro setup” promo), router $0–$100 on the label but included on the plan card, deposit $0–$250, late fee $10 or 5%, no early termination fee.
  • Gifts: Google AI Pro for six months on every tier, a $100 Amazon gift card on Fios 500 and NFL Sunday Ticket plus a $200 Amazon card on 1 Gig — with chargebacks if you cancel early.
  • Verizon 5G Home at a second Brooklyn address ran $50–$75/mo but topped out at 300 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. Where fiber is available, Fios is the better buy.

What is Verizon Fios?

Verizon Fios is a fiber-to-the-home service that runs a glass fiber line directly into your house or apartment. Because fiber carries data in both directions at the same speed, Fios delivers symmetrical plans — a 500 Mbps download comes with a 500 Mbps upload. Cable and 5G fixed wireless cannot match that; the 5G Home labels we pulled for Brooklyn list uploads of just 5–20 Mbps.

Verizon Fios covers the traditional Verizon wireline footprint in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware and Washington, D.C. Since Verizon closed its roughly $20 billion purchase of Frontier Communications, Frontier’s fiber markets in Texas, California, Florida, Connecticut and the Midwest belong to the same company — though they still shop through Frontier’s storefront for now.

Verizon Fios plans and prices (September 2026)

These are the Verizon Fios plans as quoted for a single-family address at 598 2nd St, Brooklyn, NY 11215, with the Broadband Facts label price alongside the Auto Pay price. The 2 Gig and 5 Gig rows come from Verizon’s public Fios page and were not offered at this address.

Plan Speed (down / up) Typical speed on the label Label price With Auto Pay Price guarantee Sign-up gift (Sept 2026)

Fios 500 500 / 500 Mbps 517 / 545 Mbps, 3.7 ms $75/mo $65/mo 3 years Google AI Pro + $100 Amazon gift card
Fios 1 Gig 940 / 880 Mbps 938 / 908 Mbps, 4.0 ms $90/mo $80/mo 5 years NFL Sunday Ticket + Google AI Pro + $200 Amazon gift card

*Not offered at the Brooklyn test address. All Verizon Fios plans add a $2.49/mo NY Municipal Construction Surcharge in New York State; taxes are included in the listed price. Auto Pay + paper-free billing is required for the discounted price, and dropping it adds $10/mo.

What happens when you check a real Verizon Fios address in Brooklyn?

A price table only tells you the headline number. To see what Verizon Fios actually costs, we ran a full order quote for 598 2nd St, Brooklyn, NY 11215 on September 21, 2026 and opened every Broadband Facts label. Here is what the checkout surfaced beyond the plan cards.

What the Brooklyn quote showed Detail
Plans offered Fios 300, Fios 500 and Fios 1 Gig only. 2 Gig and 5 Gig did not appear for this address.
Auto Pay + paper-free discount $10/mo off each tier. The Broadband Facts label lists the undiscounted price: $40, $75 and $90.
NY Municipal Construction Surcharge $2.49/mo on every tier, disclosed on the label under “provider monthly fees.”
Professional installation $0–$99 range on the label. The 1 Gig card carried a “Save $49 on pro setup” promo at this address.
Router Included on every plan card; the label shows a $0–$100 range for optional equipment.
Deposit $0–$250 depending on credit check.
Late payment $10 or 5% of the past-due balance, whichever is greater.
Early termination fee None. Fios is month to month.
Taxes Included in the monthly price.
Online-only extra A $150 Verizon gift card popped up as an online-exclusive offer during checkout.
Mobile + Home perks With a Verizon postpaid phone line: $99 setup fee waived, Cellular Wi-Fi Backup, priority customer care and a monthly perk worth up to $10 on the Gig tier.
Add-ons Fios TV packages at $75, $105 and $149/mo; YouTube TV at $62.99/mo for six months; Fios Home Phone at $30/mo.

Read the gift-card fine print before you count it as savings

The sign-up gifts on Fios are real, but each one has a leash. NFL Sunday Ticket (on 1 Gig) has to be redeemed by December 22, 2026, and Verizon charges back $480 if you cancel or switch plans within 365 days. The banner on our quote said the Sunday Ticket offer ends September 23, 2026, so it may be gone by the time you read this.

The Amazon gift card requires installation within 14 days, 45 days of service in good standing and registration within 60 days; cancel within 180 days and the value is charged back. Google AI Pro is free for six months and then bills $10/mo unless you cancel. Treat the gifts as a bonus for a plan you already wanted, not a reason to pick a faster tier.

Verizon Fios vs. Verizon 5G Home in Brooklyn: which should you pick?

Where both are available, Verizon Fios beats 5G Home on every technical measure and is often cheaper per megabit. We quoted 5G Home for a second Brooklyn address — 494 Henry St, Apt 2, Brooklyn, NY 11231 — on the same day to put the two side by side.

Plan Download (label) Upload (label) Latency (label) Label price With Auto Pay With Verizon mobile Price lock
Fios 300 310 Mbps typical 331 Mbps typical 4.9 ms $40 $30 $30 + perks 3 years
Fios 500 517 Mbps typical 545 Mbps typical 3.7 ms $75 $65 $65 + perks 3 years
Fios 1 Gig 938 Mbps typical 908 Mbps typical 4.0 ms $90 $80 $80 + perks 5 years
5G Home 25–85 Mbps typical (up to 100) 5–10 Mbps 50–70 ms $60 $50 $35 Until 2029
5G Home Plus 50–100 Mbps typical (up to 150) 10–15 Mbps 40–60 ms $70 $60 $45 Until 2030
5G Home Ultimate 85–250 Mbps typical (up to 300) 10–20 Mbps 40–60 ms $85 $75 $60 Until 2031

The gap is starkest on upload: Fios 300 at $30/mo uploads at roughly 331 Mbps, while 5G Home Ultimate at $75/mo uploads at 10–20 Mbps. For video calls, cloud backups and gaming, that is the number that matters. 5G Home’s real advantages are a $15/mo Mobile + Home discount, a price lock that runs to 2029–2031 and a $0 self-setup — and it reaches buildings where Verizon has never pulled fiber. The 5G Home label also allows a deposit of $0 or $400 and a $7 or 5% late fee. Our full Verizon 5G Home Internet review covers the wireless side in detail.

Who owns Verizon Fios?

Verizon Communications owns and operates Fios as its residential fiber brand, separate from its 5G Home and LTE Home wireless products. The bigger ownership story is Frontier: Verizon completed its roughly $20 billion acquisition of Frontier Communications, which means Frontier’s fiber network — including Keller, TX, the first town in America to get FiOS back in 2004 — is back under Verizon. Former Frontier customers are being folded into Verizon’s ecosystem over time.

Verizon Fios vs. Frontier Fiber after the merger: same company, two price lists

We quoted a Frontier fiber address in Allen, TX (ZIP 75013) on the same day as the Brooklyn Verizon Fios quote. Both are now Verizon-owned fiber, but the storefronts, prices and perks are still different.

Sept 21, 2026 quote Verizon Fios — Brooklyn, NY Frontier Fiber — Allen, TX
Entry tier Fios 300 — $30/mo Fiber 200 — $29.99/mo
500 Mbps $65/mo $44.99/mo
1 Gig $80/mo $64.99/mo
Fastest tier offered 1 Gig at this address (2 Gig / 5 Gig elsewhere) 7 Gig — $124.99/mo
Auto Pay discount $10/mo $10/mo
Verizon mobile discount Setup fee waived, Wi-Fi backup, up to $10/mo perk on Gig $15/mo off every tier
Sign-up gift $100–$200 Amazon card, Google AI Pro, NFL Sunday Ticket on 1 Gig $100–$300 Visa reward card (adds a 12-month prorated ETF)
Router Fios router included Amazon eero included
Price guarantee 3 years (300/500), 5 years (1 Gig+) 3 to 5 years by tier
Extra line items $2.49/mo NY construction surcharge None shown

Three takeaways. First, Frontier’s Texas pricing is $15–$20/mo cheaper at 500 Mbps and 1 Gig — the legacy Verizon Fios footprint carries a Northeast premium. Second, a former Frontier address still buys through Frontier and cannot order a Verizon Fios plan yet. Third, the Verizon mobile bundle is worth more in Frontier markets ($15/mo cash) than in Fios markets (perks). Our Frontier Internet review walks through the Allen quote in full.

How to get the lowest Verizon Fios price

You control more of the Fios bill than the plan card suggests. Start with Auto Pay and paper-free billing, which is worth $120 a year on any tier. Order online rather than by phone — the $150 Verizon gift card on our quote was flagged as online-exclusive. If anyone in the household has a Verizon postpaid phone, add the Mobile + Home link before checkout to waive the $99 setup fee.

Pick the tier by upload need, not the download headline. Fios 300 already delivers a 331 Mbps typical upload, which is more than most cable gig plans. Step up to Fios 500 or 1 Gig only if several people stream 4K, back up to the cloud or game at once. Skip the gifts if there is any chance you move or switch within a year; the $480 Sunday Ticket chargeback erases two years of Auto Pay savings. And in New York, budget the $2.49/mo construction surcharge on top of the advertised price.

Is Verizon Fios good and worth it?

Yes, where it is available. Fios consistently rates among the most reliable home internet services because it is full fiber with symmetrical speeds, no data caps and no contract. The Brooklyn labels back that up: every tier’s typical speed met or exceeded the advertised number, and latency under 5 ms is as good as residential internet gets.

The pros are symmetrical fiber, month-to-month service with no early termination fee, an included router and a 3- or 5-year price guarantee. The cons are a footprint limited to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, the 2 Gig and 5 Gig tiers reaching only select addresses, a Northeast price premium over Frontier’s Texas fiber, and gift promos with chargeback clauses. For a home inside the Fios footprint, it remains one of the strongest choices for anyone who works, streams or games at home.

Is Verizon Fios better than Xfinity?

For upload speed and consistency, Verizon Fios is better than Xfinity because Fios is symmetrical fiber while Xfinity is mostly cable with far lower upload. Xfinity has wider availability and periodic cheaper promos, but for remote work, video calls and gaming, Fios wins where both are offered. Our Xfinity speed-tier guide shows how the two lineups line up tier by tier.

Does Verizon Fios require a contract, deposit or credit check?

Fios does not require an annual contract, and the Broadband Facts label lists no early termination fee. A credit check applies at sign-up, and the label discloses a deposit range of $0–$250 for customers who do not qualify outright. There is no equipment rental line because the router is included; the label’s $0–$100 equipment range covers optional add-ons. Accepting a sign-up gift is the one thing that adds a commitment, through the chargeback terms above.

Where is Verizon Fios available, and how do you cancel?

Fios is address-specific even inside its states — our Brooklyn 11215 address could order 1 Gig but not 2 Gig, and a Brooklyn 11231 apartment was offered 5G Home instead of fiber. Check your exact address on verizon.com or the FCC National Broadband Map before you plan around it. To cancel, call Verizon or manage the account online; there is no early termination fee, but return leased equipment to avoid charges and remember the gift-card chargeback windows.

Frequently asked questions about Verizon Fios

How much is Verizon Fios per month?

At a Brooklyn, NY address quoted September 21, 2026, Verizon Fios costs $30/mo for 300 Mbps, $65/mo for 500 Mbps and $80/mo for 1 Gig with Auto Pay and paper-free billing. Without the discount, each tier is $10/mo more. New York adds a $2.49/mo construction surcharge; taxes are included.

Why is the Broadband Facts label price higher than the advertised price?

The label shows the price before the $10/mo Auto Pay and paper-free billing discount — $40, $75 and $90 for Fios 300, 500 and 1 Gig. The advertised $30, $65 and $80 assume you enroll in both.

Is Verizon Fios worth it?

Yes, where available. Fios is full fiber with symmetrical speeds, no data caps and no contract, and the Brooklyn labels showed typical speeds above the advertised tier with latency under 5 ms.

Is Verizon Fios the same company as Frontier now?

Yes. Verizon completed its roughly $20 billion acquisition of Frontier Communications, so Frontier Fiber and Fios are one company. Frontier markets still order through Frontier’s storefront, and Frontier’s Texas fiber was $15–$20/mo cheaper than Fios at 500 Mbps and 1 Gig on September 21, 2026.

Who owns Verizon Fios?

Verizon Communications owns and operates Fios as its residential fiber-optic internet brand.

Is Verizon Fios better than Xfinity?

For upload and consistency, yes — Fios is symmetrical fiber while Xfinity is mostly cable. Xfinity has broader availability, but Fios is stronger for work and gaming where offered.

Does Verizon Fios have a contract, data cap or early termination fee?

No. Fios is month to month with no data cap and no early termination fee. The only commitment comes from sign-up gifts, which carry chargebacks — $480 for NFL Sunday Ticket if you cancel within 365 days, and the Amazon card value if you cancel within 180 days.

Is Verizon Fios free to compare on this site?

Yes. Comparing Fios and other providers at your address on myutilitysearch.com is free. Prices are the same as ordering direct.

Does Verizon offer business Fios?

Yes. Verizon Business Fios is sold at 300 Mbps ($69), 500 Mbps ($99), 1 Gig ($149) and 2 Gig ($179) a month as of September 28, 2026, $5 less with autopay, on a two-year agreement with a $49 activation fee and optional one- to five-year price guarantees. Current offers are dated to end between November 15 and December 31, 2026.
