Spectrum Price Increase 2026: Painful Hikes & Proven Fixes
The 2026 Spectrum price increase adds $10 a month to legacy Flagship, Ultra and Gig internet plans and $4 a month to legacy TV Essentials. Spectrum confirmed the change, which began showing up on bills in June and July 2026. Current Spectrum pricing plans were not touched, and that gap is the single most useful fact on this page.
Updated September 17, 2026. Prices checked against Spectrum’s site the same day.
TL;DR — the Spectrum price increase in 60 seconds
- Who pays: customers still on legacy Flagship, Ultra or Gig internet, plus legacy TV Essentials.
- How much: $10 a month on internet, $4 on TV Essentials ($31 to $35).
- The sweetener: free speed lifts. Flagship moves from 400 to 500 Mbps and Ultra from 600 Mbps to 1 Gig.
- The painful math: legacy internet has now risen about $16 a month across three hikes in 24 months.
- The smart move: ask to switch to current pricing, then compare what else serves your address.
What is the Spectrum price increase in 2026?
The 2026 Spectrum price increase is a rate adjustment aimed at long-time customers. Cord Cutters News reported on July 29, 2026 that Spectrum confirmed a $10 rate increase for customers on legacy Flagship, Ultra and Gig internet packages.
Spectrum paired the hike with faster speeds. Legacy Flagship rises from 400 Mbps to 500 Mbps. Legacy Ultra jumps from 600 Mbps to 1 Gig. You pay more, and you get more, whether you asked for it or not.
On the TV side, the legacy TV Essentials package moved from $31 to $35 a month. Notices went out in June 2026, and the new amounts were landing on statements by July.
Here is the detail that matters most. The same report says customers on Spectrum’s current pricing plans were unaffected. This Spectrum price increase is a loyalty tax on people who have not changed plans in years.
Spectrum price increase history: 2024 to 2026
One Spectrum price increase is an annoyance. A pattern is a budget problem. Here is every documented Spectrum price increase on internet and common fees since the start of 2024.
| When | What changed | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| January 2024 | Broadcast TV Surcharge (Buffalo, NY market notice) | $23.20 to $25.75/mo |
| January 2024 | Advanced WiFi fee | $5 to $7/mo |
| January 2024 | Spectrum Internet Assist | $19.99 to $24.99/mo |
| July 2024 | Spectrum Internet base rate | +$3/mo (+$4 on legacy plans) |
| July 2025 | Legacy internet plans | +$2/mo |
| July 2025 | Spectrum TV Select packages | +$5/mo |
| June–July 2026 | Legacy Flagship, Ultra and Gig internet | +$10/mo, with speed lifts |
| June–July 2026 | Legacy TV Essentials | $31 to $35/mo |
Sources: WKBW Buffalo (January 9, 2024), CableTV.com, and Cord Cutters News (June 27, 2025 and July 29, 2026). Fee amounts vary by market, so treat the table as the pattern, not your exact bill.

Add each Spectrum price increase together and a legacy internet customer is paying roughly $16 more each month than two years ago. That is about $192 a year for the same cable line.
Why did my Spectrum bill go up?
Not every higher bill is the 2026 Spectrum price increase. Five different things push a Spectrum bill up, and the fix is different for each. Pull up your statement and match the line item.
1. Your 12-month promo ended
This is the big one. Spectrum’s site lists Internet 100 at $30, Internet 500 at $40 and Internet 1 Gig at $60 a month for one year, then says standard rates apply. Independent rate-card checks have found standard rates $30 a month above promo pricing.
2. You are on a legacy plan
If your bill says Flagship, Ultra or an older Gig package, you were in the group that got the $10 Spectrum price increase. Customers on current plans were not.
3. The Broadcast TV Surcharge rose
This fee is not a government tax. It is Spectrum passing along what local stations charge to carry their channels. In one 2024 market notice it stood at $25.75 a month, and it has climbed repeatedly. Internet-only customers do not pay it.
4. A WiFi fee crept in
Spectrum includes the modem free, but Advanced WiFi is listed at $10 a month on every tier below 1 Gig. That fee was $5 at the start of 2024. Using your own router removes it.
5. Your TV package went up
TV Select rose $5 in 2025 and TV Essentials rose $4 in 2026. Spectrum blames programming costs, saying networks continually raise the fees they charge.

What Spectrum customers really say: the good and the bad
Every Spectrum price increase sparks the same debate, so we would rather show you evidence than a slogan. The numbers tell a split story about Spectrum right now.
The bad: customers are leaving
Charter reported losing 172,000 internet customers in the second quarter of 2026 alone, leaving 29.4 million. That followed a loss of 119,000 in the fourth quarter of 2025. People do vote with their feet.
The frustration is specific. Long-time customers watch new sign-ups get $30 and $40 offers while their own rate climbs. A Spectrum price increase that lands only on loyal accounts feels unfair, and it is hard to argue otherwise.
The good: service scores are holding, and the basics are strong
Spectrum scored 71 in the 2026 American Customer Satisfaction Index, exactly the average for non-fiber providers. It was flat while Cox, Xfinity and Verizon improved, but it is far from the bottom of the table.

There are real positives. Spectrum has no data caps, no annual contracts and a free modem. Charter says billing-related calls fell 16% in the first year of its customer commitment, and that it now offers price guarantees of up to three years on qualifying packages.
The honest read: Spectrum is a solid network with a pricing model that punishes inertia. Customers who check their plan every year do fine. Customers who set it and forget it pay the most.
How to fight a Spectrum price increase: 6 proven moves
You have more leverage against a Spectrum price increase than the bill suggests. Work through these in order. The first two take one phone call.
- Find out which plan you are on. Look for Flagship, Ultra or a legacy Gig name on your statement. If you see one, you are paying the legacy rate.
- Ask to move to current pricing. Current plans were not part of the 2026 Spectrum price increase. Ask the agent to price Internet 500 or 1 Gig at your address and compare it with your new legacy rate.
- Drop the WiFi fee. A router you own replaces the $10 monthly Advanced WiFi charge and usually pays for itself within a year.
- Trim or cut TV. Dropping TV removes the package cost and the Broadcast TV Surcharge together. For many homes that is the largest saving on the bill.
- Price the mobile bundle honestly. Spectrum advertises a $1,000 savings guarantee for customers who bring two or more mobile lines. It only helps if the mobile plan actually beats what you pay today.
- Get a competing offer before you call. Retention agents respond to a real alternative. Know the 5G home or fiber price at your address first.
One caution. Spectrum does not promise a discount to anyone who calls, and results vary by market and by agent. Our guide on how to lower your internet bill without canceling walks through the call step by step.
Former Cox customers: will you see a Spectrum price increase?
Charter closed its acquisition of Cox on August 19, 2026. Cox’s own transition page says your plan, price and equipment do not change at close.
What is changing is the brand and the menu. Spectrum pricing and packaging began rolling into former Cox markets in mid-September 2026. A Spectrum price increase is not automatic for you, but when a new offer arrives, compare its standard rate, not just the first-year price.

Should you switch? The best alternatives after a Spectrum price increase
Sometimes the best answer to a Spectrum price increase is a different provider. Three options are worth checking at your address.
- 5G home internet. Verizon and T-Mobile lead the 2026 ACSI table at 79 and 78. See our best 5G home internet roundup, or the Verizon 5G Home and AT&T Internet Air guides.
- A price-lock plan. Several providers now freeze your rate for years. We compare them in best internet price-lock plans.
- A cheaper tier. If you mainly stream and browse, a lower speed may be plenty. Start with best cheap internet or our list of cable internet alternatives.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Spectrum price increase in 2026?
Yes. Spectrum confirmed a $10 per month increase on its legacy Flagship, Ultra and Gig internet packages, which began reaching bills in June and July 2026. Legacy TV Essentials also rose from $31 to $35 per month. Customers on Spectrum’s current pricing plans were not part of this increase.
Why did my Spectrum bill go up?
The five usual causes are a 12-month promotional rate ending, a rate adjustment on a legacy plan, a higher Broadcast TV Surcharge, a WiFi equipment fee, or a TV package increase. Your bill’s line items show which one applies. A promo ending is the most common and the largest.
How much does Spectrum go up after 12 months?
Spectrum’s site says standard rates apply after the first year. Independent rate-card checks have found standard rates $30 per month above the promotional price on internet-only plans. Always confirm the standard rate for your address before you order, because it varies by market.
Can I avoid the Spectrum price increase?
Often, partly. Legacy-plan customers can ask to move to current pricing, which was not included in the 2026 increase. Bundling Spectrum Mobile lines, returning rented WiFi equipment, or trimming TV can also offset it. Spectrum does not promise a lower rate to anyone who calls, so have a competing offer ready.
Does Spectrum have a price guarantee?
Charter says Spectrum launched price guarantees of up to three years in September 2024 as part of its customer commitment. The guarantee applies to qualifying current packages, not to older legacy plans. Read the offer details for your address, since terms depend on the bundle you choose.
Will former Cox customers see a Spectrum price increase?
Not automatically. Charter closed its Cox acquisition on August 19, 2026, and Cox’s own transition page says existing plans and prices do not change at close. Spectrum pricing and packaging began rolling into former Cox markets in mid-September 2026, so review any new offer against what you pay today.
Is Spectrum internet still worth it after the price increase?
It depends on your address. Spectrum still offers no data caps, no annual contracts and a free modem, and its ACSI satisfaction score of 71 matches the non-fiber average. If fiber or 5G home internet reaches you at a lower locked price, switching can beat any retention offer.
Do I have to pay an early termination fee to leave Spectrum?
Spectrum markets its residential internet with no annual contracts, so most customers can leave without an early termination fee. You do need to return the modem and any rented equipment to avoid unreturned-equipment charges. Check your own agreement if you signed up through a bulk or property deal.
